“Doctor Who” is back on the air and coming with a full new season in May 2024, all steered by showrunner Russell T. Davies who has also returned.
One of Davies’ most famous Who-related creations is the adult spin-off series “Torchwood”. The show ran for two seasons in 2007 and 2008, had the acclaimed mini-series ‘Children of Earth’ in 2009 and was last seen over a decade ago with the less well-regarded 2011 mini-series ‘Miracle Day’.
Rumors recently surfaced online that the show could return in the form of a revival with scooper Daniel RPK indicating discussions about the possibility have taken place – but these are only talks.
Davies has previously teased that Torchwood could make a return, but not in the near future. He said at a Q&A last month (via Digital Spy): “No it doesn’t [make an appearance] yet. And no plans for that either, but I love it. It’s not a promise, but let’s have a think.”
The series has been more focused on building out UNIT in the recent specials and characters from UNIT will return in the upcoming first season of Ncuti Gatwa’s run.
“Torchwood” follows the exploits of a small team who make up the Cardiff-based, fictional Torchwood Institute, which deals mainly with incidents involving extraterrestrials. John Barrowman, Eve Myles, Burn Gorman, Naoko Mori, Gareth David-Lloyd and Kai Owen starred.
