Odeya Rush has joined Justin Long and Iris Apatow (Pretty Lethal) in Stung, a killer bee survival thriller from director Colin Minihan, and filming has now wrapped on the horror movie.
Deadline reports that Rush (Lady Bird, Goosebumps, Memory of a Killer) has joined the cast alongside Apatow and Long, who is reteaming with Minihan after they worked together on the survival thriller Coyotes. Annarah Cymone (The Midnight Club) and Neela Jolene (Juniors) have also joined the cast.
What is Stung about?
Written and directed by Colin Minihan, Stung follows four teenage girls whose innocent sleepover turns into a nightmare when they become trapped inside a luxury Orange County home overtaken by a massive swarm of African killer bees.
Rush plays Maya, with Apatow as Jess, Cymone as Brooke, and Jolene as Rachel. Long plays their pathetic neighbor Derek, who apparently isn’t exactly equipped to save the girls from their increasingly deadly situation. So, it sounds like these killer bees are going to have a productive night.
Stung Cast and Production
In addition to Rush, Apatow, Long, Cymone, and Jolene, the cast includes Teddy Parker, Kayln Harper, James Baccile, Tom DeNucci, Kea Ho, and Rob Goon.
Stung was filmed entirely in Rhode Island and has now wrapped production. Andre Relis, Chad A. Verdi, Jib Polhemus, Chad Verdi Jr., Paul Luba, and Jessica Russo produced the film, with Michelle Verdi, Sera Verdi, and Anthony Gudas serving as executive producers. VMI Worldwide, Verdi Productions, and Source M+P are behind the project, with VMI Worldwide presenting the movie to worldwide buyers at TIFF.
Verdi Productions president Chad A. Verdi said the project is an “intense horror story” centered on entertaining characters, adding that the script and concept immediately grabbed his attention.
Director Colin Minihan previously described Stung as tapping into a primal fear of being trapped, isolated, and attacked by something seemingly unstoppable, while also exploring friendship, trust, and survival under pressure.
What else has Colin Minihan directed?
After several years working as a music video director for artists including Ten Second Epic, Theory of a Deadman, These Kids Wear Crowns, Marianas Trench, Papa Roach, and Carly Rae Jepsen, Minihan made his feature directorial debut with the 2011 horror movie Grave Encounters, which he co-directed with Stuart Ortiz as the Vicious Brothers. The alien invasion film Extraterrestrial followed in 2014, then the zombie movie It Stains the Sands Red in 2016 and the psychological horror film What Keeps You Alive in 2018.
Minihan most recently directed Coyotes, which starred Justin Long and Kate Bosworth.
