Disney is reportedly considering the possibility of launching a free version of its Disney+ SVOD service.

Business Insider reports that the Mouse House is discussing ways for the studio to make some content accessible on Disney+ without a paywall.

The talk came during a streaming town hall on Thursday afternoon where product and tech chief Adam Smith reportedly spoke about enabling free-tier content.

No timeline was given, nor any indication of how large the scope of such a project would be, but it has been part of discussions about concepts to better serve fans.

The ad-supported Disney+ and Hulu bundle currently costs $12.99 while the ad-free version is an additional $7.

The talk comes as Nielsen data has indicated free streaming services like YouTube have generated significant growth in viewership share on US-based TVs as compared to paid ones.

The three largest free streamers now account for 18.7% of watch time on US TVs compared to 12.7% just two years ago.
