Dwayne Johnson is set to both star in and produce the new action-drama “Free Byrd” for Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s Artists Equity label.
The “Black Adam” and “The Smashing Machine” star would take on the role of a Las Vegas motorcycle stuntman who conceals his dementia diagnosis from everyone, including his mechanic brother, as he risks everything on one last jump.
The story examines and confronts the mind’s vast mysteries and the beauty and power of asking for help before it’s too late.
Greg Kwedar (“Train Dreams,” “Sing Sing”) will direct and rewrite the screenplay. Jon Boyer originated the Black List script while Michael Schwartz and Tyler Nilson penned an earlier draft.
Johnson stars in the live-action “Moana” remake hitting cinemas Friday and will appear this Christmas in “Jumanji: Open World”. He also has Benny Safdie’s “Lizard Music” on the way.
Johnson, Kwedar, Clint Bentley, and Oscar nominee Gil Netter will produce.
