Focus Features has unveiled the teaser trailer for “Nosferatu” and “The Lighthouse” director Robert Eggers’ newest period horror film “Werwulf”.

A “harrowing tale of devotion, damnation and the devil within, the story unfolds in 13th-century England and reportedly features Old English dialogue that was true to the time period.

The film was originally planned to be shot in black and white, but that is no longer the case. Instead, it uses an orthochromatic treatment in post to make the skin tones more wrecked while the grain structure of black-and-white film has been put onto the colour film.

Eggers has co-written the film with Sjón, and both will produce alongside Tim Bevan, Garett Bird, Eggers and Eric Fellner.

“Nosferatu” became the director’s highest-grossing film to date, making $156.3 million off a $50 million budget. The new film is tipped to be the “darkest thing” he’s ever written.

Lily-Rose Depp, Willem Dafoe, Ralph Ineson, and Bodhi Rae Breathnach co-star in “Werwulf” which is expected to arrive in cinemas on December 25th.
