Disney’s Infinity Vision, the new certification standard for premium large format (PLF) theatres unveiled back in April, is set to go much bigger than initially planned.

With “Dune: Part Three” taking all the IMAX screens on December 18th, Infinity Vision is being seen as a way for Disney to market its “Avengers: Doomsday” release under one common banner – as opposed to the dozen or so non-IMAX premium screen formats available (eg. Dolby, Screen X, 4DX, etc.).

At the time of the announcement, they said over 75 domestic and 300 global exhibitor PLFs were currently available to consumers. Today, two months on, they indicated at CineEurope that they have received more than 7,500 applications from global exhibitor screens looking for certification.

The studio is now verifying those screens. To be branded with an Infinity Vision label, auditoriums must meet rigorous technical standards, including screens that are a minimum of 45 feet/13.7 meters wide, have an immersive sound system like Dolby Atmos or 7.1, and brightness levels must reach either 14 footlamberts in 2D and/or 6 footlamberts in 3D.

The first release under the new banner will be the re-release “Avengers: Endgame” on September 25th. Titled “Avengers: Endgame Encore”, the re-release will boast a custom introduction, additional new footage, and a special end tag exclusive to Infinity Vision and IMAX releases.

Disney has also launched the Infinity Vision ticketing landing page today at InfinityVisionTickets.com.
