Netflix used its panel at Annecy International Animation Film Festival earlier today to unveil new looks at its slate of animated projects.

The biggest reveal was the first shot from “Ghostbusters: Night Shift,” a new animated TV series based on the popular film franchise.

The action takes place in 1994, five years after the originals but well before the 2020s films. The team behind the show made it clear that events of the series will be canon in the Ghostbusters universe.

The story begins when a new wave of supernatural terror hits the Big Apple, forcing a group of scrappy, young New Yorkers – untrained, underappreciated and kinda sorta responsible for the problem – to put on proton packs, face their fears and bust some ghosts.

The younger Ghostbusters team in the show also have a ‘terror puppy’ which essentially sounds like their version of Slimer.

Jason Reitman, Gil Kenan and Dan Aykroyd are executive producing the new series and from footage screened, Jack Quaid seemingly voices an older member of the team – though no casting for the show has been confirmed as yet.

“Ghostbusters: Night Shift” will hit the streamer in 2027.
