If there’s one thing that seems quite clear, no one seems to be sure how much the “Supergirl” film will open to this weekend.
The other week as pre-sales went online, projections had the title aiming for a $55-60 million domestic opening weekend haul, going by the early sales figures.
Now, several industry box-office prognosticators have offered quite different takes on where they think the film will land with tracking numbers ranging from as low as $39 million to as high as $58 million.
BoxOffice Pro, BoxOfficeTheory and Puck’s Matthew Belloni have all offered different takes on what they think the final result will be, but one thing is consistent – all seem to be suggesting a lower number than originally projected with somewhere around the $50 million mark being the settled upon average.
The talk comes as the $175 million budgeted film premiered the other night, and while reviews aren’t out until tomorrow, early reaction has gone online and appears to be mixed-positive. Praise is high for Milly Alcock’s performance and the Krypton-elements but less for the story and other characters.
A piece at Deadline has also gone into the 80+ sponsors tied to the film with those companies delivering “$100 million-plus in media value” with “purchased advertisements, retail store space, as well as campaign digital and linear impressions.” Those deals suggest the film may not have to make that much in order to achieve break-even.
“Supergirl” is set to open in cinemas this Friday.
