Next month is pretty much going to cement Tom Holland as the biggest movie star in the world these days if pre-sales numbers are anything to go by.
Holland has two of the biggest films of the year arriving in July – Chris Nolan’s “The Odyssey” and Destin Daniel Cretton’s “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”.
“The Odyssey” unleashed IMAX tickets for sale the other week, and now the UK’s largest screen – BFI IMAX – has announced that they have reportedly sold 28,000 tickets to the title in 24 hours.
That broke the ‘first day on sale’ records for the venue with a total gross of £750,000 and follows on from four individual opening weekend screenings being put on sale a full year in advance, which sold out in under an hour.
The first day takings have jumped over the previous records of £366,000 held by “Dune: Part Two” and £254,000 held by “Oppenheimer”.
Meanwhile, tickets for Sony and Marvel’s “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” go on sale tomorrow and already ticket sellers are bracing for insanity.
Global Box-Office reports that projections are that “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” will record America’s biggest first-day of pre-sale revenue EVER when they go online at 9am US-ET.
The previous records of first-day pre-sales for a film are Marvel’s “Avengers: Endgame” with $50 million, and “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” with $37 million.
