By Following the success of its remakes of “Resident Evil 2,” “Resident Evil 3” and earlier this year “Resident Evil 4,” Capcom has confirmed more are on the way.
Yasuhiro Anpo, who directed the highly acclaimed “Resident Evil 4” remake, appeared at an awards event in Japan on Friday and was asked if Capcom wants to do more remakes. Anpo tells IGN:
“Yes. We’ve released three remakes so far and they have all been received very well. Since it allows a modern audience to play these games, it is something I am happy to do as someone that loves these older games, and we want to continue doing more.
What game we will remake in the future is something that we would like to announce in the future, so please look forward to it.”
The “Resident Evil 2” remake released in January 2019 has sold 13.1 million copies, Capcom’s third best-selling game ever and the most successful entry in the franchise to date.
The third game has sold eight million copies, and the recent fourth game remake sold four million units in its first two weeks – faster than any series entry since 2009’s “Resident Evil 5”.
The obvious question is what game will be remade next – will it be “Resident Evil 5,” will they listen to fans who are begging for a “Resident Evil – Code: Veronica” remake, or will they reinvent the original “Resident Evil”?
