Will Smith has reportedly been set to star in the action-thriller “Supermax” which Amazon MGM Studios has acquired from Miramax for a deal around the $70 million mark.
David Gordon Green (“Halloween,” “Scarpetta”) is set to direct the project, which marks Smith’s first non-franchise studio movie in recent years.
The film is said to be a streaming-only release for Amazon (ala “Voltron,” “Road House”) and not a theatrical title like the upcoming “Masters of the Universe”.
David Weil and David J. Rosen (“Hunters,” “Invasion”) pen the script about two FBI agents investigating a murder that’s taken place in the world’s most secure prison.
Additional casting is underway with filming aiming to begin mid-August. Smith, Adam Fishbach, Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman are producing.
“Bad Boys: Ride Or Die” is Smith’s only film in the past four years.
