New Line Cinema has officially green-lit the follow-up to the 2021 Mortal Kombat reboot, with Moon Knight writer Jeremy Slater handling the script. The sequel continues the saga of Earthrealm warriors as they face new threats in the deadly tournament.
The first Mortal Kombat film opened at number one at the box office and topped HBO Max’s most-watched list during its hybrid release. With strong fan support and renewed studio backing, the franchise is set to expand its universe.
Mortal Kombat 2 hits theaters on October 24, 2025, and promises even more brutal action, iconic characters, and deeper lore from the legendary video game series. Fans can expect intense fight scenes, larger-scale battles, and the long-awaited arrival of Johnny Cage in live-action form.
