Filmmaker Ridley Scott has confirmed he’s trying to get “Adolescence” actor Owen Cooper to star as Jim Hawkins in his upcoming new film adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s “Treasure Island” at Sony Pictures.

Scott will be back in cinemas next week with “The Dog Stars,” his first sci-fi film since “Alien: Covenant,” and has been out on the promotional circuit.

Speaking with Collider, he confirmed his “Treasure Island” adaptation is his immediate next film with shooting to begin on November 1st. He added: “Yes, with Hugh Jackman. I hope Hugh Grant, and I hope the kid from Adolescence.”

The 18th-century coming-of-age story follows young Jim Hawkins as he finds a map to Captain Flint’s long-lost fortune and embarks on a perilous voyage aboard the Hispaniola.

Aboard the ship, Jim and the crew face mutiny led by the cunning, one-legged cook, Long John Silver (Jackman) – but ultimately outsmart the pirates to claim the gold. The work famously created many aspects of pirate lore.

Emmy-winning “Adolescence” writer Jack Thorne is penning the script for the film, with Jackman being the only actor previously linked to the project. Scott confirms casting is currently in full swing.
