Filmmaker Edgar Wright’s been out and about lately promoting the release of the anime series “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off” which he executive produced and which is partly a new take on his own 2010 film “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” based on the famed comics.

Wright of course is the beloved English filmmaker behind comedies such as “Shaun of the Dead” and “Hot Fuzz” along with more recent efforts like “Baby Driver” and “Last Night in Soho”.

The new “Scott Pilgrim” marks one of the few times he’s gone back to previous work and expanded or adapted it in another form, but it’s not the only time that possibility has come up.

Speaking on the Happy. Sad. Confused podcast this week, Wright revealed that at one time an American adaptation of his breakthrough work was being considered:

“There have been some conversations about that, yes. We’ve been quite protective about that. A long time ago, an American company wanted to do a TV series of ‘Shaun of the Dead,’ based on the film. We were like, ‘No!’. Sometimes when these things come up, we take them very seriously. And some things are things we are still talking about.”

Wright adds he’d only do another adaptation of his previous work in another form if he had creative control. He also says: “I know I’d be a lot richer if I said yes to everything. [laughs]”
