Many have raised their eyebrows at the $200 million price tag of the upcoming Netflix feature “The Adventures of Cliff Booth”.
While it’s not unusual to see the streaming giant spend that much, they already did for action films like “Red Notice,” “The Gray Man” and “The Electric State,” it does seem unusual considering the genre/subject matter.
Now, a new report at Puck News has gone into some of the film’s economics and indicates that almost half that budget is going towards the three key talents involved – star Brad Pitt, writer Quentin Tarantino and director David Fincher.
The publication lists Pitt as snagging a $40 million salary for the role, while both Fincher and Tarantino are getting $20 million each. That’s $80 million spent before a single frame is shot.
It’s also before other cast members like Yahya Abdul Mateen II, Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Holt McCallany, Karren Karagulian, and Timothy Olyphant get paid.
Despite the trailer tease during the Super Bowl, rumours of the film debuting in the late Summer (ie, August) remain unconfirmed. The Wrap’s insider Drew Taylor shot that potential release window down this week, with a Fall debut looking more likely.
Netflix is also reportedly contemplating a ‘robust rollout’ for ‘Cliff Booth’. Not much is known about the plot beyond Pitt’s enigmatic stuntman from ‘Once Upon a Time,’ following Pitt’s enigmatic stuntman into a new story set eight years later.
