Himseh Patel (“Bait,” “The Luminaries,” “The Franchise”) has scored the male lead opposite his former “Station Eleven” co-star Danielle Deadwyler in filmmaker Ryan Coogler’s “The X-Files” reboot at Hulu.
Coogler will write and direct the pilot, while Jennifer Yale (“The Copenhagen Test”) has been set as showrunner for the series. Hulu handed out a green light for the pilot back in February.
The pair will play two vastly different FBI agents who form an unexpected bond when both are assigned to a long-shuttered unit within the agency – a unit that investigated unexplained phenomena.
The pair are playing all new characters rather than new iterations of Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) from the original series.
Yale, Coogler, Sev Ohanian, Zinzi Coogler, and original “The X-Files” creator Chris Carter will all produce with Onyx Collective and 20th Television backing the project.
At this time, neither Anderson nor Duchovny is attached to Coogler’s pilot, though Anderson teased the other day that she has read the pilot script.
