Following the release of the first trailer earlier this week, more details have emerged regarding Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Three” ahead of the film’s release in December.

First up, actress Rebecca Ferguson has confirmed that she only has one scene in the film. Ferguson reprises her role of Paul’s mother Lady Jessica in the movie.

The news isn’t hugely surprising, the character doesn’t feature at all in the “Dune Messiah” novel upon which the new film is based. Ferguson tells Happy Sad Confused it was Villeneuve’s choice to have a scene for her:

“I just dipped my toe in. I have no, sort of, comments on it. The script is great. But my journey was No. 1 and 2. I don’t even think Jessica was supposed to be in 3. And then Denis was like, ‘I need to have one scene,’ and I get one scene. There’s a lot of FOMO. And the acceptance of, ‘This is just what it is.’ You just have to serve.”

Next, Villeneuve talked about the change of tone for the film in comparison to the two previous movies. He tells The Guardian:

“It’s a very different movie than the first ones. It’s a good idea to come back to those world, not by nostalgia, but by urgency. If the first movie was contemplation, a boy exploring a new world, and the second one is a war movie, this one is a thriller. It is action-packed and tense. More muscular.”

Anya Taylor-Joy meanwhile has spoken about her Alia Atreides character, calling her one of a kind in an interview with Today (via GVN):

“There’s never been anybody like her. She’s named The Abomination, and a lot of people find her really creepy except for her brother. She has absolute prescience; she lives with the voice of generations of people in her head. She’s never in a singular conversation, and that can drive somebody a little bit crazy.”

Composer Hans Zimmer has confirmed on Instagram that none other than Timothée Chalamet himself performs the Fremen chanting heard in the trailer.

In addition, it has been confirmed that comics legend and creator of both “Y: The Last Man” and “SAGA,” co-wrote the screenplay.

While desert scenes remain digitally captured for visual impact, much of the film is shot using 65mm and IMAX film formats. “Dune: Part Three” opens in cinemas and IMAX on December 18th.
