The indie movies we get sent are hit and miss; we’ve seen some belters, and we seen some stinkers. Very rare that we get a movie that ‘literally’ stinks, but Dead Lover does.
I know, I know, it’s on the end of super indie, but it’s the stinkiness that’s the fun part. They invited us to a screening of Dead Lover in London, but sadly, we couldn’t make it.
This was a shame, as the movie was presented in Stink-O-Vision. They handed out scratch ‘n’ sniff cards to use throughout the movie. That sounded like fun, a hark back to the days of William Castle.
Dead Lover stars Grace Glowicki, Leah Doz, Lowen Morror, and Ben Petrie. Glowicki directed and co-wrote with Petrie. She also starred in a movie called Strawberry Mansion, which Albert Birney directed. I interviewed him the other day.
Back to Dead Lover and details from the press release.
Press Release
Following its World Premiere at Sundance, the film played at SXSW, Night Visions, TIFF, Edinburgh International Film Festival and Soho Horror Festival.
Dead Lover is a deliciously dark horror-comedy, for fans of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Death Becomes Her and Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.
The film centres around a smelly gravedigger who craves love and, after she’s found it, refuses to let it go – even in death.
A lonely gravedigger, who stinks of corpses, finally meets her dream man – but their romance is cut short when he tragically drowns at sea. Grief-stricken, the gravedigger goes to morbid lengths to resurrect him through madcap scientific experiments, resulting in grave consequences and unlikely love.
Dead Lover will be in select UK cinemas on the 20th of March. If you see it on digital, you’ll have to do your own ‘scratch ‘n’ sniff’.
