By Polish fantasy writer Andrzej Sapkowski, the author of “The Witcher” novels, says Netflix has “never listened” to his ideas for their series adaptation of his novels.
Appearing at Vienna Comic-Con last week, the writer was asked if he’s given Netflix any feedback to the show to which he replied with a laugh: “Maybe, I gave them some ideas, but they never listened to me. But it’s normal.” He then impersonated a Netflix executive saying: “Who’s this? It’s a writer, it’s nobody.”
His comments follow what has been a rough period for those working on “The Witcher” as their relationship with the show’s passionate fandom has been strained.
Months before his abrupt departure after shooting the third season, star Henry Cavill told the trades he was committed to the show “as long as we can keep telling great stories which honor Sapkowski’s work”.
Cavill has since been replaced by Liam Hemsworth and deviations from Sapkowski’s source material has been one of the main complaints from fans about the show since it began.
After Cavill’s exits, one of the show’s writers on its first two seasons also spoke out claiming other writers on the show actively disliked the books and games to the point of mocking it. Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich dismissed those reports.
The show’s recent third season, though down 36% on the second season, racked up 99.4 million viewing hours.
