By During the Summer, the actor’s strikes shut down pre-production on “TRON: Ares” just a few weeks before it was able to hit its original start of shooting date in mid-August.
Now that they’re over, the studio is quickly moving to get the third “TRON” film back on track, with Collider reporting today that filming will officially kick off in Vancouver, Canada “right after the holidays”.
The story will reportedly focus on the emergence of Ares, a sentient program that crosses over into the human world that is not ready for contact. Jared Leto will play the human manifestation of that program.
Evan Peters, Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Cameron Monaghan are also part of the cast. Norwegian filmmaker Joachim Rønning (“Kon-Tiki,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales”) directs from a script by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne.
The new film is expected to spend more time in the real world than the digital ones of the first two movies. It’s unclear if “TRON: Legacy” stars Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund, and Olivia Wilde will return to their roles from earlier films in the series.
Rønning revealed back in August that over 150 employees had been let go from the project due to the strikes.
