She also indicates the game has become the title with the most ‘Player’s Choice’ awards at 125, more narrowly beating out “The Last of Us Part II” with 115, “Elden Ring” with 97, “Baldur’s Gate III” with 89, “The Witcher III: Wild Hunt” with 88 and “Uncharted 4” with 76.

The posting goes into a lot more data, including acknowledging that there are a lot more ‘Game of the Year’ awards now than in previous years – 621 compared to 529
in 2024.

The post has come under criticism and questions about its methodology on both the thread itself and Reddit in regards to the ‘outlets’ that qualify, including some unknown content creator accounts with only a few dozen views for their GOTY posts.

Others have made claims of bias, pointing out the game’s famously hardcore fanbase specifically looking for E33 wins only and discounting others. Yet, the list is making the rounds and generating discussion in a positive way for the title that was hit by a bunch of negative headlines a few weeks ago over the alleged use of generative AI.

One of the most interesting stats in the bunch was that the title seemingly claimed 70% of all the ‘Game of the Year’ awards given out last year. That’s the third percentile of all time, behind 1991’s “Street Fighter II” with 80% and 1998’s “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time” with 87%.
