Venezuelan actress Maria Gabriela de Faria (“The Moodys,” “Deadly Class,” “Animal Control”) has scored a role as one of several villains in James Gunn’s upcoming “Superman: Legacy” film.
de Faria will play Angela Spica aka The Engineer, she’s a member of The Authority who was first introduced in 1999 by Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch. She has powers that stem from nanotechnology built into her body.
She marks the first new bit of casting announced for the film since the end of the actor’s strike, though plenty more announcements are expected in coming days.
She also marks the first of The Authority characters to be cast. Already confirmed are David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason/Metamorpho.
The new film will follow Superman as he looks to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.
The film is still on track to begin shooting in March for a July 11th 2025 release.
