An expression that’s becoming more popular is ‘one and done’ movies. Some movies are a great idea, hit people’s imaginations, and do well. They don’t need a sequel or an expanded story; they are ‘one and done’. The Devil Wears Prada was like that.
Because of ‘money’, they had to make another one, The Devil Wears Prada 2 has been made, and a teaser is online.
I can’t tell you much about the original movie. Mrs Boba Phil will watch it if it’s on TV, but that’s about it. I seem to remember Andy (Anne Hathaway) had had enough of Miranda (Meryl Streep) and left the business. Don’t bother correcting me if I’m wrong; I don’t care.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 sees most of the original cast back, with some new additions: Streep, Hathaway, Emily Blunt, Sydney Sweeney, Kenneth Branagh, Stanley Tucci, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, Lady Gaga, Tracie Thoms, B. J. Novak, Simone Ashley, and Rachel Bloom.
David Frankel is back as director, and Aline Brosh McKenna is returning as writer. The story is:
Follows Miranda Priestly’s struggle against Emily Charlton, her former assistant turned rival executive, as they compete for advertising revenue amidst declining print media while Miranda nears retirement.
So, it’s the same story, but this time Andy is an exec? The original movie came out 20 years ago, so is it going to be 20 years since then?
The Devil Wears Prada 2 will be out on the 1st of May 2026.
