Marvel stalwarts, Civil War and the final two Avengers movie directors Joe and Anthony Russo, are switching to Lionsgate for the John Rambo prequel film.
Their production studio, AGBO, will be producing the project. The Russo Bros. will be Executive Producers.
The Recruit star Noah Centineo is in final negotiations to star as the lead. Set before the Sylvester Stallone movies, it will tell the story of Rambo in Vietnam. Like all prequels, it will no doubt feel the need to explain every single part of his lore. Billy goats will puke, and berets will be greened, as Sam Trautman makes him into the John Rambo we all know.

The movie is set to be filmed in Thailand. Angela Russo-Otstot and Michael Disco will also produce for ABGO alongside Kevin King Templeton, Les Weldon, and Jonathan Yunger for Millennium Media.
Stallone is aware of the project, but not involved. Before any trip to Thailand, Centineo will star as Ken Masters in Legendary’s live-action adaptation of Street Fighter, starring opposite Jason Momoa and Andrew Koji.
Jalmari Helander (Sisu) directs the film, which is expected to begin production in early 2026.
