This makes us happy! Why does this make us happy? No idea, really. It just does. Deadline has reported that Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are in discussions to return for a new entry in The Mummy franchise at Universal Pictures.

Fraser became hot property in Hollywood off the back of this franchise, and just as his star was soaring, he was the victim of an alleged sexual assault via groping by Philip Berk, a former president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), of groping him in 2003.

Fraser said the incident contributed to his career decline and made him feel reclusive.

He made a triumphant comeback with an Oscar-winning role for The Whale.

Returning to his headline franchise would complete his comeback.

Radio Silence‘s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Scream VI, Ready or Not) will direct from a script by David Coggeshall (The Family Plan).

The pair would reprise their roles as former French Foreign Legion soldier Rick O’Connell and English Egyptologist Evelyn Carnahan.

For the third movie, Fraser returned but Maria Bello took over the Evie role.

The original two movies were big hits, and the third made its money back despite weaker reviews.

Sean Daniel, William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein will produce The Mummy… Part 4(?) for Universal.

How this works alongside the recently completed Blumhouse version is not clear.
