Apple TV+ has been rolling out its “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” series with the first three of ten episodes now online. The series continues Legendary’s MonsterVerse story showing scenes that take place both in the 1950s and in 2015 after the events of 2014’s “Godzilla”.

So far, it has been a success with critics – reviews have been good to very good, and the marketing seems to have engaged people. However the viewing numbers aren’t in yet, so, on that front, it’s still too early to tell.

Should they prove good, it begs the question of whether the series could get a second season, or was the show designed as a one-off?

The Direct spoke with multiple members of the show’s production team and executive producer Matt Fraction suggests they could very well continue:

“It wasn’t designed as a limited series. We certainly love the characters and playing in the world. And if we are so lucky and so fortunate, I think we could keep going for as long as people want to keep watching, quite honestly. Yeah.”

Showrunner Chris Black says it’s up to the viewers if a second season is to get the go ahead:

“I mean, it’s kind of really up to the viewers and the fans. We hope that they respond to the story that, what we’re telling, [and] that they’ll want to see more.

We had to sort of build this from the ground up as a TV series, as something that was going to go for 10 hours and hopefully, if we’re lucky, two seasons, three seasons–whatever we’re lucky enough to get.”

The series isn’t limited by much continuity as the events of “Godzilla: King of Monsters” take place in 2019, offering plenty of time and space for the franchise to explore.

“Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” is now showing on Apple TV+ and runs through until early January. The new “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” film hits cinemas on April 12th 2024.
