Disney Pictures and 20th Century Studios have a monster hit on their hands with “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” judging by the reaction to the first trailer.
The launch of said trailer last week saw the film rack up 75 million views in 24 hours across platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, X/Twitter and more.
In addition a ‘trailer tease’ for the film the day before earned 25 million views in 24 hours. Social engagement included 72,000 mentions in 24 hours and a top 10 trend on X.
Though not up there with say with some major Disney, Marvel or “Avatar” films, it’s still an incredibly strong response and Disney’s marketing president says in a statement to Variety they “couldn’t be more thrilled” with how it went.
“The Maze Runner” helmer Wes Ball directs ‘Kingdom’ which is set generations after 2017’s “War for the Planet of the Apes”. Apes are now the dominant species on Earth and humans have regressed to a feral state.
A new ape leader begins enslaving other ape clans in the search of secret human technology, which leads a younger ape named Noa to set out on a journey to find freedom.
Owen Teague, Kevin Durand, Freya Allen, William H. Macy and Peter Macon star in the film which is set to open in theaters May 24th 2024.
