You don’t see Sean Astin for ages, then he’s in two indie movies at once.

The Man in the White Van

I say the movie’s stars Astin, what I mean is, he’s in this movie, the main star is Madison Wolfe. Here is a trailer.

In the UK, White Van Man is an overweight builder, covered with tattoos, who has the intelligence of a brick and hasn’t read the Highway Code, because he can’t read. This version is somewhat different.

The Man in the White Van stars Astin, Wolfe, Brec Bassinger, Ali Later, Skai Jackson, Gavin Warren, Noah Lomax, and Deborah Ann Woll. Warren Skeels is the writer and director, co-writing with Sharon YT. Cobb. The story is based on real-life events:

In a quaint, family town in Florida, 1974, an ominous white van stalks a young girl, and her parents’ disbelief leads to a terrifying Halloween nightmare.

The trailer gave it a bit of a Duel feel, but I can’t see it living up to that.

The Man in the White Van will be available on digital on the 29th of September.

The Invisible Raptor

The second Astin movie looks like a lot of fun. It’s about a raptor that’s on the loose, but it’s invisible!

This obviously leans into the camp hard and looks like it’s good fun. I have a screen to watch and will report back, but this is one of those movies I can’t wait to see.

The Invisible Raptor stars Astin, Mike Capes, Sandy Martin, David Shackelford, Caitlin McHuge, Bobby Gilchrist, Larry Hankin, and Richard Riehle. Miley Hermosa is directing, with Mike Capes and Johnny Wickham writing. The story is not based on real events:

An amusement park palaeontologist and a hapless security guard team up to stop an invisible raptor from wreaking havoc on their small town.

I love how they wanted to make a dinosaur movie, but couldn’t afford the CGI. How do you get around that? Make the raptor invisible! Brilliant!

The Invisible Raptor is available from the 8th of September.

Good for Astin doing movies like this. I don’t want to call him a legend, but his Micky from The Goonies is a fond childhood memory, and it was Sam who carried Frodo to the top of Mount Doom. Sam was the real hero!

Also, I found out today that Sean Astin is Jon (Gomez Addams from the original TV show The Addams Family) Astin’s son. According to Wiki, Sean’s mother, Patty Duke, was never sure who the father was, but he was adopted by Jon Astin when she married him.
