Some had expected it to land before the end of this year, but Amazon Prime Video’s Blade Runner 2099 has been confirmed to be coming in 2026. The series was originally greenlit in late 2022, but delayed production by a year due to the strikes. It is currently in post-production.
According to the report at Deadline, this comes from an internal memo at Amazon MGM Studios from Laura Lancaster, who is Head of US SVOD TV Development and Series – Co-Productions. That’s a job title!
Hunter Schafer
Jonathan van Tulleken directed the first two episodes, which are set (as the title suggests) in Los Angeles in 2099. Hunter Schafer (Euphoria) plays a replicant named Cora who has lived her entire life on the run, adopting numerous identities in the process.
To secure a stable future for her brother, she assumes one final identity and is forced to partner with a Blade Runner named Olwen (Michelle Yeoh), who is confronting the end of her life. The pair becomes caught up in a widening conspiracy that poses an existential threat to a city that’s fighting to be reborn.
Co-stars include Dimitri Abold, Lewis Gribben, Katelyn Rose Downey, and Daniel Rigby with Johnny Harris, Amy Lennox, Sheila Atim, and Matthew Needham.
Silka Luisa serves as showrunner and executive produces alongside Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson, Ben Roberts, Ridley Scott, David W. Zucker, Clayton Krueger, Tom Spezialy, Richard Sharkey, Michael Green, Cynthia Yorkin, Frank Giustra, and Isa Dick Hackett.
