The ongoing actor’s strike is causing film release delays into 2024 and 2025 as various production shoots are impacted and studio slates get reconceived on a regular basis.
One rumor that emerged earlier this week is that the first effort of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe initiative – the animated “Creature Commandos” series, had been delayed.
This is despite the fact much of the cast recording sessions for the series were completed well before the actor’s strike and the show was well into production ahead of its planned late 2024 release.
Gunn himself has now confirmed the rumors are untrue with the seven-episode show all set to come out in 2024. He adds:
“There have never been any delays, thank goodness. Any info otherwise is a well-intentioned mistake or misspeaking.”
He also confirms the dialogue recording is unimpacted by the strikes anyway:
“Animation isn’t part of the SAG contract, but it still doesn’t matter as everyone’s lines have been recorded for a long time, and animation has been going full speed ahead for a while.”
The series stars Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., the father of Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag from “The Suicide Squad”. Other members of the team include David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein, Indira Varma as the Bride of Frankenstein, Alan Tudyk as Doctor Phosphorus, Zoë Chao as Nina Mazursky, Sean Gunn as both G.I. Robot and Weasel, Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic, Steve Agee as John Economos and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.
The series will premiere on the Max streaming service.
