This year’s BAFTAs and Writers Guild Awards have announced their annual nominations with some distinct variations between the two.
First up, the WGA has set “A Real Pain,” “Anora,” “Challengers,” “Civil War” and “My Old Ass” for original screenplay while “A Complete Unknown,” “Dune: Part Two,” “Hit Man,” “Nickel Boys” and “Wicked” are up for adapted screenplay.
On the TV front, “Fallout,” “Shōgun,” “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” “The Diplomat,” “The Penguin,” “The Boys,” “The Bear,” “Abbott Elementary,” “What We Do in the Shadows,” “Presumed Innocent,” “Ripley,” “True Detective: Night Country,” “Say Nothing,” “Hacks,” “Nobody Wants This,” “English Teacher,” “Elsbeth,” “Evil,” “Sugar,” “Only Murders in the Building,” “The Sticky,” “Somebody Somewhere” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm” are up for various awards.
Over in the UK, the BAFTAs have seen “Conclave” and “Emilia Pérez” lead this year’s nominations with 12 and 11 respectively followed by “The Brutalist” with 9; “Anora,” “Dune: Part Two” and “Wicked” with 7; and “A Complete Unknown” and “Kneecap” with 6.
Notable snubs include no Best Picture for “Wicked,” no Denzel Washington supporting actor nomination for “Gladiator II,” no Nicole Kidman for “Babygirl,” no Daniel Craig for “Queer,” and nothing for “Challengers”.
The top honor of Best Film will see “A Complete Unknown,” “Anora,” “Conclave,” “Emilia Perez” and “The Brutalist” competing. The full list of BAFTA nominees are up at BAFTA.org.
