One of the most anticipated returning television series for this year, is the mind bending workplace psychological thriller “Severance” over on the Apple TV+ service.
Arriving three years after the first season debuted in February 2022, the new run will consist of a slightly longer ten episodes and certainly won’t be the end if creator Dan Erickson has his way.
Speaking with io9 about the new season ahead of its launch next week, Erickson was asked if he had an idea about how he’d like the show to conclude. He reveals he has an end point in mind:
“I have a pretty solid idea of the end point of the show. I have kind of a final scene that has always been in my head and answers to some of the big questions. I think you sort of have to know those in order to know the rules of the world that you’re writing.
But also, I think it’s balanced because I like to be surprised by the show too. Sometimes we’ll meet a new character or find a new location or element of the show that I am surprised to find myself in love with and all of a sudden it’s like, ‘Well, now that has to be part of it. We can’t just leave that there. We have to make that a part of the bigger story.’ And that’s where a lot of the fun comes in. You have to think on your feet a little bit and let the show surprise you.”
That of course begs the other question, how many seasons would he like the series to run for. He says he and Apple have already worked that out: “It’s not like a 100% for sure but we’ve talked about it internally and we’re all pretty sure that we have a number that we’re happy with.”
A third season has not yet been greenlit but Erickson says should it be the hope is it will be out a lot sooner than the three year time gap between the first and second.
The series stars Adam Scott, Britt Lower, Tramell Tillman, Zach Cherry, John Turturro, Christopher Walken and Patricia Arquette. The second season of “Severance” is scheduled to premiere on January 17th.
