Alex Garland must be working overtime. With Civil War barely faded from memory, his next project already has a trailer – Warfare. It is co-directed by Garland along with Ray Mendoza. Mendoza is an ex-Navy SEAL who served in Iraq and was the military supervisor on Civil War.
It is based on his experiences in Iraq and aims to offer unparalleled authenticity as a “boots on the ground” story told in real-time.
It tells the story of a platoon of American Navy SEALs stationed covertly in the home of an Iraqi family, tasked to overwatch the movement of US forces through insurgent territory. Things start to go wrong when they are discovered.
Charles Melton, Joseph Quinn, Kit Connor, Cosmo Jarvis, Will Poulter, Finn Bennett, Noah Centineo, Taylor John Smith, Adain Bradley, Michael Gandolfini, Henrique Zaga, D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai and Evan Holtzman star in the film.
Other than what is in the trailer, everything else is under wraps other than the tagline:
“Everything is based on memory”.
Warfare will be released sometime in 2025, but the firm release date is not yet known.
