I think you can use the word ‘legend’ for Clint Eastwood. Now well into his 90s, his newest movie, Juror No. 2, will be going straight to Max this December. It has a small theatre release, but not the kind Eastwood was hoping for.
Juror No. 2 has had a limited release, turning over about $10 mill at the moment. The budget for it was original $30 million to make. With a little money spent on advertising, a release in the cinema would be a winner, right?
Not according to rumours that everyone’s favourite producer, David Zaslav, wanted it to go straight to Max. This is just a rumour, but people think that Zaslav thinks the movie will lose him money. The best way to recoup it would be to miss the cinemas and go straight to streaming.
Eastwood’s movie have made money in the past, mostly likely in the billions. Sure, he’s had a few flops as well, but people will still see a movie by the cinema legend. The man has Oscars under his belt, been in movies like the original Spaghetti Westerns, Dirty Harry and Firefox.
In the directors’ chair, he’s made more movies than we’ve had hot dinners. What’s sad about this is, as I said, the man is in his 90s, this might be his last movie.
The Story
The story for Juror No. 2 sounds interesting:
While serving as a juror in a high-profile murder trial, a family man finds himself struggling with a serious moral dilemma, one he could use to sway the jury verdict and potentially convict or free the wrong killer.
The movie stars Nicholas Hoult, Toni Collette, J. K. Simmons, Kiefer Sutherland, Zoey Deutch, Megan Mieduch, Adrienne C. Moore, Leslie Bibb, Drew Schied and Bria Brimmer.
Reports are the movie is very good, with an ending that gives you something to think about. Guillermo Del Toro said:
“Went to the theatre to see Juror#2, Clint Eastwood’s latest film. We enjoyed it tremendously. It’s – in some ways- his Crimes and Misdemeanors.
Why was this not released widely in the States? We saw at the Grove with a significant crowd that was vocal and responsive all the way. I truly hope WB can hold it longer. Eastwood is a master filmmaker and the steady, unfussy craft reveals him still in great form. Go see it on the big screen!”
I think there are a lot of people that want to see it on the big screen, but they can’t. I might just sit closer to my TV when it’s streaming on Max.
Juror No. 2 will be streaming on the 20th of Dec.
