Considering her character’s death in the first film, it wasn’t expected that Sarah Michelle Gellar’s beauty queen character Helen Shivers would be back for the upcoming new sequel to 1997 slasher film “I Know What You Did Last Summer”.
Even so, fans have been discussing the possibility. Speaking with People this week, the former “Buffy” star makes it clear she’s not returning with the short and succinct “I am dead”. Her husband though, actor Freddie Prinze Jr., will reprise his role.
Jennifer Kaytin Robinson is directing the latest installment of the horror film franchise which will see Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt return to their roles from the original film, and are joined by fresh faces like Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers and Jonah Haur-King.
Gellar says she will be involved in the film in an unofficial capacity:
“My best friend [Jennifer Kaytin Robinson] is directing it, so we joke that I have an unofficial job, which is I am continuity. So I’m always the one telling her, ‘Well, that would happen, or that wouldn’t happen with those characters,’ so I do have kind of an unofficial job title.”
Robinson and Sam Lansky penned the script from a draft by Leah McKendrick. Neal Moritz is producing the film which will open July 18th 2025.
