Warner Bros. Pictures started a disturbing trend with “Batgirl,” that of films which had already completed filming and are suddenly vaulted for tax purposes with no plans to release them.

Several others have followed suit, most recently “Coyote vs. Acme” with the plan then changed to allow the filmmakers to shop it around.

Now however, a streaming service is getting in on the vaulting trend it seems with The InSneider reporting that Netflix has scrapped its sci-fi thriller “The Mothership” starring Halle Berry.

The report indicates the project completed filming over two years ago but the studio now plans to never release the film. However the reasoning this time actually has more justification than a tax write-off.

The report indicates the film would require “significant reshoots” that weren’t only expensive, but also impractical as many of the key characters are kids – the young actors having physically grown up a lot in the time since filming wrapped.

In addition, Sneider indicates there were extensive delays in completing post-production which impacted the decision.

Matt Charman penned and directed the film which also starred Molly Parker, Omari Hardwick, Sydney Lemmon, John Ortiz and Paul Guilfoyle.

Berry plays Sara Morse, a widow whose husband mysteriously vanished from their rural farm a year ago. When she discovers a strange, extraterrestrial object underneath their home, she and her kids embark on a race to find him and the truth.
