Sir Ian McKellen is currently out there promoting his appearance in the film “The Critic” about an unrestrained vitriolic newspaper critic in pre-WW2 London.

Speaking with NPR whilst promoting the film, the 85-year-old actor says he has no plans to retire – even after his falling off the stage during the London production of Player Kings in June.

McKellen suffered a fractured wrist from the fall at Noel Coward Theatre in June but has seemingly recovered well. Recently he’s even spoken about his potential return to the role of Gandalf.

He tells the outlet this week that it’s going to take more than a broken wrist to stop him from acting because he loves the craft:

“I’ll carry on until the knees give way or the memory gives way or the mind goes. There’s nothing else I’d rather do with my life than that. Much better to wear out than rust out, as they say.”

Gemma Arterton, Alfred Enoch, Ben Barnes and Lesley Manville co-star in “The Critic” which was penned by Patrick Marber and directed by Anand Tucker. It is in UK cinemas now.
