Beloved animation studio LAIKA (“Paranoman,” “Missing Link”) has revealed a first look at their next film, “Wildwood,” via a stop-motion animated digital cover for the latest issue of Empire and created exclusively for the magazine.
The cover took 120 days to make, and was worked on by over 160 LAIKA team members across 15 departments.
A brief clip sees a scene from “Coraline” morphing into a scene from “Wildwood” which will mark the company’s sixth feature and is helmed by Travis Knight (“Kubo and the Two Strings”) from a script by Chris Butler (“ParaNorman,” “Missing Link”), based on the novel by Colin Meloy.
The Portland-set story follows Prue McKeel, who enters an enchanted wonderland when her baby brother Mac is taken by a murder of crows into the forest’s depths.
Carey Mulligan, Mahershala Ali, Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Jacob Tremblay, Awkwafina, Angela Bassett, Jake Johnson, Charlie Day, Amanda Stenberg, Jemaine Clement, Maya Erskine, Tantoo Cardinal, Tom Waits and Richard E. Grant star.
“Wildwood” is set for release in 2025.
