Stephen Oyoung is the latest to join the cast of the eighth “Mission: Impossible” film at Paramount Pictures and Skydance.
Oyoung’s addition comes as actor Simon Pegg confirmed earlier this month that he has wrapped filming his scenes for the long-in-the-works production.
The next film is expected to be the potential end to the series and will serve as a continuation of the seventh entry, “Mission” Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1″ in which Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt is in pursuit of a sentient AI known as ‘The Entity’.
Specifics of the next film’s plot are under wraps, as are details of Oyoung’s role. The actor can be seen in this week’s “Twisters,” and has appeared in such films as “Sicario” and “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum” as well as serving as a fight coordinator on “The Equalizer” and sword trainer on “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”.
However, he’s arguably best known for his voice work in AAA video games, such as his roles as Martin Li/Mr. Negative in the “Marvel’s Spider-Man” games at PlayStation, Jason Todd/Red Hood in “Gotham Knights,” and KK in “Ghostwire: Tokyo”.
The seventh ‘Mission’ film pulled in $567.5 million worldwide, down on the near $700 million the fourth and fifth films scored and the near $800 million the sixth landed.
With a gross production budget of $291 million, it was one of the most expensive films ever made and the sequel looks likely to come in at a higher cost with reports suggesting that is already over $300 million.
Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Vanessa Kirby, Mariela Garriga, Henry Czerny, Shea Whigham, Greg Tarzan Davis, Charles Parnell and Frederick Schmidt all return and are joined by Holt McCallany, Janet McTeer, Nick Offerman, Hannah Waddingham, Katy O’Brian and Tramell Tillman.
Christopher McQuarrie returns to direct from his own script and the film opens May 2025.
