Ben Mendelson will reprise his “Rogue One’ role of Imperial Director Orson Krennic in the second season of Tony Gilroy’s acclaimed “Star Wars” series “Andor” reports The Playlist.
Earlier this year, Mendelsohn suggested that he would not be returning as he hadn’t been approached by Lucasfilm for the show which was well into production by that time.
Then, late last week, the outlet spoke with Mexican filmmaker Alonso Ruizpalacios (“A Cop Movie”) about his kitchen drama “La Cocina,” and he revealed he had the honor of directing the last three episodes of the “Andor” twelve-episode final season.
These are the episodes that lead directly into “Rogue One”, and while he could discuss any specifics, he did say it was a treat to direct heavyweight actors on this like “Stellan Skarsgård, Forest Whitaker, and Ben Mendelsohn”.
That suggests he worked with Mendelsohn on the show, though just how much isn’t clear. We know the show will end leading right up to the events of “Rogue One” so Krennic’s involvement isn’t a surprise.
Additionally, series lead star Diego Luna attended ACE Superhero Comic Con this weekend and says (via PopVerse) that season two will boast “characters there that you will recognize” and that once the season is complete, it’s: “going to be fascinating to go straight to ‘Rogue One’ after watching this second season, because you will see ‘Rogue One’ from a different perspective.”
“Andor” has wrapped its second season of filming and is due to premiere on the Disney+ service in early next year.
