Mark Ruffalo is in talks to re-team with his “Thor: Ragnarok” co-star Chris Hemsworth in the planned film adaptation of Don Winslow’s 2021 novella “Crime 101” at Amazon MGM Studios.

“American Animals” helmer Bart Layton is attached to direct the project which begins as high-level jewel thefts have taken place along the Pacific Coast and have remained unsolved for a decade, with the cops putting the blame on Colombian cartels.

The pragmatic, middle-aged, recently divorced, San Diego-born detective Lou Lubesnick is chasing a whole different suspect however – a debonair lone-wolf jewel thief who has evaded capture thanks to living by a very strict code.

Two other key roles include a go-between named ‘Money’, and an insurance broker named Sharon. Layton wrote the script with contributions from Peter Straughan.

Pedro Pascal was previously rumored for the co-starring lead role with Hemsworth, it sounds like that didn’t pan out.

Working Title’s Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan, Derrin Schlesinger, Shane Salerno, Layton, Hemsworth, Dimitri Doganis, and Ben Grayson are producing. A cinema release in 2025 is planned.
