Nicolas Cage, FKA Twigs, Noah Jupe and Souheila Yacoub are all set to star in Egyptian-American filmmaker Lotfy Nathan’s horror-tinged young Jesus film “The Carpenter’s Son”.
The dark story follows a family hiding out in Roman Egypt. The son (Jupe), known only as ‘the Boy’, is driven to doubt by another mysterious child and rebels against his guardian, the Carpenter (Cage), revealing inherent powers and a fate beyond his comprehension.
As he exercises his own power, the Boy and his family become the target of horrors, natural and divine. The work has reportedly taken inspiration from the apocryphal Infancy Gospel of Thomas which recounts the childhood of Jesus and dates back to 2 A.D.
FKA twigs, who will be seen in the upcoming “The Crow” reboot, will take the role of ‘the Mother’. Cage is coming off the just released “Arcadian” and will be in Cannes shortly with “The Surfer,” Jupe is coming off Apple series “Franklin” and Yacoub was last seen in “Dune: Part Two”.
Cinenovo and Spacemaker are producing the project which follows on from Nathan’s acclaimed debut feature “Harka” in 2022. It is scheduled to shoot this summer with Cage, Julie Viez, Alex Hughes and Riccardo Maddalosso producing.
