Nisha Ganatra (“Late Night”) has been set to direct the sequel to Disney’s 2003 family comedy “Freaky Friday”.
Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, who starred in the 2003 film are in negotiations to reprise their roles as the mother and daughter combo who find themselves switching bodies and lives.
The hiring today finally gives some real momentum to the long-in-in-development project which is heading for a start of filming this Summer in Los Angeles.
Curtis and Lohan have talked of their hopes for a sequel for several years now, but serious talks only began relatively recently. Andrew Gunn and Kristin Burr are producing.
The new script, by Jordan Weiss, is said to bring a multi-generational approach to the story.
Ganatra is known for bringing a light touch to her TV work which encompasses shows like “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “Welcome to Chippendales” and “And Just Like That”.
