The Never Ending Story was only 1 hour 42 minutes. Technically, I should still be watching it today, you know, if it never ended. Well, someone didn’t want it to stop and a new series of movies is planned as a reboot.

The original is a bit of a classic now. I have fond memories of it as a child. I say fond memories, I also remember being traumatised when the horse died. If you didn’t cry at that, you’re a monster!

The horse is going to be OK? Right?

Based on a novel from 1979, The Never Ending Story was made into a movie in 1984 by Wolfgang Petersen.

It does stand up against the test of time, mainly because of the great animatronics and creature effects. Falkor, the white flying dog thing, was a 43-foot-long motorized creature.

There were two sequels, one in 1990, starring Jonathan Brandis. The second was in 1994, starring Jason James Ritcher. Then apparently a TV series in 2001. Yeah, I don’t remember them either.

The producers have expressed their excitement for the project, saying:

“The Never Ending Story is a beloved book that has captured the imagination of generations of fans all over the world. Bringing literary worlds to screen is part of See-Saw’s DNA, and we are passionate about cinematic storytelling and entertaining audiences. We have such love for the book and are honored to be working with Michael Ende Productions on this collaboration to bring audiences back to Fantastica.”

I never read the book, but the original story was engaging. Having said that, I don’t recall seeing it for many years. Do you think a series of movies of The Never Ending Story will work? Do you think they will kill off the horse again?
