May el-Toukhy’s post-WW2 Denmark-set tale “Woman Unknown” has taken the top prize of the Golden Lion for best film at this year’s Venice Film Festival. The story focuses on a maid (Mathilde Arcel) whose past during the Nazi occupation threatens to unravel her future. It also won for Best Actress.
Lee Chang-dong’s “Possible Love” won the Silver Lion, while Yuval Abraham & Rachel Szor’s Gaza doco “NAZA” took a Special Jury Prize following its 25-minute standing ovation. John Malkovich took home Best Actor for his role in “Wild Horse Nine”. [Source: THR]
Reasonable People
Paul Rudd and Sam Rockwell have scored the lead roles in “Bad Education” and “Thoroughbreds” director Cory Finley’s new contemporary suburban thriller film “Reasonable People”. Filming will begin this Fall.
A reckless car crash leaves a young woman brain-damaged, the teen daughter of an architect (Rudd). The driver is the son of a wealthy developer, and the tragedy ignites a war of revenge between fathers. Rockwell plays Rudd’s drifter brother, who shows up after the accident and escalates the stakes. [Source: ]
Stung
Dilming has reportedly wrapped in Rhode Island on the killer bee movie “Stung” which hails from writer-director Colin Minihan. VMI Worldwide, Verdi Productions and Source M+P produced the project.
The story follows Jess (Iris Apatow), Maya (Odeya Rush) Brooke (Annarah Cymone) and Rachel (Neela Jolene) as their innocent girls’ night sleepover spirals into a living nightmare when their home is overtaken by a massive swarm of African killer bees. Under the watchful eye of their pathetic neighbour Derek (Justin Long) not even he can save the girls from their fate. [Source: Deadline]
Optimus Prime: Awakening
A clip has been released from “Optimus Prime: Awakening,” a brand-new 12-minute animated short will debut exclusively in theaters after “The Transformers: The Movie” when it returns for its 40th anniversary beginning September 17th. The short features Frank Welker as Megatron and Soundwave and the late Peter Cullen in his final performance as Optimus Prime.
Ken Russell’s The Devils
Warner Bros. Clockwork has posted a new promo showing how good the restoration work on Ken Russell’s “The Devils” is ahead of the historic director’s cut hitting cinemas for one week on October 16th.
Guillermo del Toro has hyped up the release, saying: “The restoration of the material is like cleaning the Sistine Chapel with saliva. I’ve never seen the movie until I saw this restoration.”
