Before Wes Craven made Scream and changed the horror genre all over again, he was presented with a potential sequel to Shocker. That sequel never happened, but fans can now read the unproduced treatment for Shocker 2 for free, thanks to author and screenwriter Nicholas Grabowsky, who has shared the long-lost treatment on his website!
Grabowsky is a prolific horror and fantasy writer. He wrote the novelization of Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, as well as novels including Pray, Serpent’s Prey; The Everborn, and The Wicked Haze. He has also worked in comics, nonfiction, publishing, and independent film, and founded Black Bed Sheet Books, a publishing house focused primarily on horror and fantasy.
According to Grabowsky, he was asked to write a sequel treatment for the 1989 Craven film in 1992. He spent several months developing the story, with the intention of moving on to a screenplay if the treatment was approved. Craven responded positively to his work, but ultimately decided to pursue another project instead. That project was Scream.
That decision obviously worked out pretty well for Craven. Scream became one of the most influential horror movies of the 1990s and launched a franchise that continues to this day. But Shocker fans have spent decades wondering what a sequel might have looked like. Now they can finally find out.
What Was Shocker 2 About?
Grabowsky’s proposed sequel would have brought the characters from the first Shocker into a new supernatural story shortly after the events of the original movie. Horace Pinker, the electrically powered serial killer played by Mitch Pileggi, would have faced a new supernatural adversary.
The sequel would have retained the bizarre, larger-than-life tone of Shocker while expanding its supernatural mythology. And Grabowsky had an especially strange idea for the new villain: when he’s executed in the gas chamber, the character enters a book and later emerges in a gas-like form. He wants to show Pinker that books are better for him than television. It’s exactly the kind of bonkers concept that makes an unproduced sequel treatment worth digging up decades later.
Grabowsky also says his treatment would have continued the first movie’s television-themed absurdity while introducing this new supernatural threat for Pinker to confront.

As mentioned, Grabowsky has now made the Shocker 2 treatment available to read for free through his website, allowing fans to finally see the sequel that never made it to the screen. The author has remained proud of the project over the years, particularly because of the praise he says he received from Craven for his efforts.
It’s impossible to know exactly how Shocker 2 would have turned out had it been produced, of course. The treatment was never developed into the movie Grabowsky originally hoped to write. Instead, Craven moved on to Scream, leaving Shocker as one of the more unusual standalone entries in his filmography.
Still, the existence of Grabowsky’s treatment offers horror fans a fascinating glimpse at an alternate timeline: one where Wes Craven followed up Shocker before making Scream. And given the gloriously strange premise Grabowsky came up with, it’s hard not to wonder what that movie might have been.
