Kane Parsons has officially signed on to direct the “Backrooms” for A24 according to Dread Central, with an official announcement said to be imminent.

The news is hardly a shock after the first film opened earlier this Summer to massive box-office success, the title ultimately pulling in $394 million from a budget of under $10 million.

The title became A24’s highest-grossing film to date, the fifth-highest-grossing independent film of all time.

It also made Parsons the youngest filmmaker to reach number one at both the United States and Global box offices. Reviews were also pretty good.

The question arose as to whether the young Parsons would do a sequel first or try another film instead. He is developing another project with his mentor Osgood Perkins, who helped Parsons make his film.

Now the outlet has answered it, confirming “Backrooms 2” will be Parsons’ next movie. Parsons has made it clear in press earlier this year that the first film was just the beginning and “a doorway into the larger narrative he’d been building online”.
