The one and only Dolly Parton, the iconic singer, actress, producer, writer and more, has died. She was 80.

According to TMZ, she was hospitalised in Tennessee with ‘kidney and autoimmune issues’ five days before her death. In an interview published last Friday, she said she’d been privately suffering ‘hard times’ with her health.

Few have done more for music and entertainment than Parton. Across a six-decade career, Parton released 50 albums and won 190 awards including 11 Grammys and 3 Emmys along with two Oscar nominations and five Golden Globes.

Song wise she wrote and sung some of the most famous songs ever made from signature hits like “Jolene” to “I Will Always Love You”. Her songwriting skill was prolific, penning over 3,000 songs with quite a few of those compositions became massive hits for other performers.

Acting-wise, she had starring roles in films like “9-5,” “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas,” “Straight Talk” and “Steel Magnolias”. She was also a producer with her production company responsible for the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” franchise and films like “Father of the Bride”.

She’s also a famous philanthropist supporting many charitable efforts, particularly in the area of literacy.

US President Donald Trump said the passing of “one of the greatest country singers EVER” and “In her honour, I am lowering the American flag throughout the United States for a one week period beginning tonight at 6:00PM. Rest in Peace, Dolly! The World loves you.”
