Black Bear has premiered the US and UK trailers for the upcoming romantic fantasy feature “Wicker” opening in limited release on October 23rd.
The story is described as an audacious comedic fable about sex, marriage, and the absurdities of social convention. It tells the wholly original love story of an ostracized fisherwoman (Olivia Colman) who commissions a husband to be made by the local basketmaker (Peter Dinklage).
When her wicker husband (Alexander Skarsgård) proves more spectacular than she ever imagined, his soulful spirit and unique prowess awaken something inside her, setting off a wave of jealousy, fascination, and upheaval that threatens the very fabric of village life.
Elizabeth Debicki, Marli Siu, Nabhaan Rizwan, and Ella Bruccoleri also star while Richard E. Grant plays the village’s eccentric and incompetent doctor.
Topic Studios and Tango Entertainment finance and produce the film with Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson directing from a screenplay they adapted from the short story “The Wicker Husband” by Ursula Wills-Jones.
Colman, Ed Sinclair, Tom Carver, David Michôd, Brad Zimmerman, Justin Lothrop and Brent Stiefel produce. The project was shot back in 2024 in Budapest. The movie premiered at Sundance earlier this year to very good reviews.
