A few months back, rumours spread that Zendaya was being eyed to take the lead of a reboot or revival of the Jason Bourne franchise.

Nothing really came of it until a month ago when a report over at The InSneider indicated the actress had “DEFINITELY had discussions about it”.

Both Zendaya and previous Bourne franchise star Matt Damon have been out promoting “The Odyssey” with Zendaya not discussing any of it, though her husband Tom Holland has spoken multiple times about his love of the franchise.

Damon himself has also gone on the record about the next film, telling The Rich Eisen Show late last week he’s still involved:

“I’m talking to a great director named Edward Berger. He did All Quiet on the Western Front; he’s a wonderful director. We’re talking about it, and we’re just trying to nail the story down. I’d love to do it, but it’s just that thing where if we do it, we want it to be like the first three. And it’s tough, because it’s not built like a James Bond where every movie is its own mission and you can even change the person playing Bond. It’s a linear story, so that makes it more challenging to do a sequel where you’re giving people what they want but also enough new stuff.”

Yesterday, Sneider posted a new update saying: “Now hearing the new Bourne movie will be Damon AND Zendaya… who will be positioned as the franchise’s heir apparent, or so I’m told.”

The franchise overall has pulled in $1.64 billion at the global box office and is generally considered the most successful spy film franchise after James Bond.
